Mick Wootton Master PrintMaker Visiting Artist Atelier 88

Last week we were privileged to have a surprise visit from Master printmaker Mick Wootton Head of Printmaking at Northumbria University Newcastle upon Tyne UK and his wife textile designer Pauline. Although this was a journey to recreate their honeymoon visit to Spain 20 years ago and chilling with old friends who were with them on the day, you could not keep Mick out of the studio for long. Mick being an acute observer of life around him had his usual sketchbook filled with drawings of flamenco dancers and guitarists from Seville. This is the fiesta season in Andalusia and many cities, towns and villages celebrate with music, dance, and religious processions. Not here long but time for a good number of mono prints were produced at Atelier 88. Painting directly onto metal etching plates Mick then ran these through our Arteina Etching press onto dampened off white rag 250 gsm paper. The mono prints as the name suggests are one off’s but there is a ghost image left on the plate and can be worked into another printing. I hope you enjoy Mick’s work as much as we do.
