“Pete and Lottie made us very welcome and Atelier 88 was the perfect place to be.”
Atelier 88 was the perfect place to stay where we spent a calm and relaxing time. The old house has been very tastefully restored to a high finish. Our ensuite bedroom was very comfortable with a perfect bed; the bathroom luxurious and the indoor living spaces were tranquil and relaxing. For us Atelier 88 was like a boutique hotel. The patio garden is full of interesting plants and it is a mix of light and shade – the perfect place for listening to music or reading a book or getting into conversation whilst indulging in a glass of wine. Lottie is a fantastic cook and produced an incredible breakfast each day as well as some wonderful evening meals using local produce plus olive oil from the region.
Alcala la Real is the kind of place people go in search of, to experience ‘the real Spain’. It has interesting shops bars and restaurants to try out. There are lots of winding streets and alleyways to explore, all ways going ‘up’ lead to the imposing castle that is set in interesting gardens.
The surrounding countryside is varied: the olive groves are a short distance from the house but a little further over on the other side of the town are a number of plateaus and Rocky areas that are sanctuaries for wildlife. The view from the high points reveals a landscape dotted with hilltop villages and mountains -somewhere I’d like to explore in the future. Lottie and Pete were very welcoming and friendly and us gave us lots of interesting facts about the flora and fauna, geography and history of the area that was really useful.
Pete has a studio (which I used) that is fully equipped for painting or making prints -he offers classes in art and that is something I’m planning to take advantage of when I certainly return.
